Forbidden Fruit

Glimpt of South Africa is the first work of the swedish design duo, Mattias Rask and Tor Palm. The philosophy behind this project is to create objects for the European market with a feeling of South Africa, items that will be the outcome of the relationship between craftmanship and design. Glimpt makes this possible by involving local artists into the production process. In this way their handicraft and cultural tradition is strongly highlighted and shown to the rest of the world whilst the project helps the local economy grow.

Both designers felt the need to create objects that will have a story to tell, items that will get their owners emotionally involved.  Glimpt of South Africa is a series of products for which local materials and techniques were used, in an attempt to give a unique style that merges local tradition and modern design. The outcome was a stool and a sideboard which are knockdown as well as the ceiling lamps Forbidden Fruit and the floorlamp Last Fruit Standing. The lamps combine ceramics and turned wooden pearls.
